• 1 package french onion soup mix
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1/2-3/4 cup water

This Salisbury Steak Recipe makes 6 large oval patties. My recipe is adapted from food.com’s Very Best Salisbury Steak. The Salisbury Steaks come out tender and the gravy has a very sweet yet savory  flavor. You can double the gravy to have some to serve over mashed potatoes or rice. This Salisbury steak recipe goes great next to mashed potatoes.

Scrumptious Salisbury Steak Recipe

In a large bowl mix together ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, black pepper and half a packet of French Onion Soup/Dip mix. I used Knorr French Onion Soup which worked really well. The soup mix is very salty which is why I omit adding any salt from this recipe.

Shape ground beef mixture into 6 oval patties.

In a pan over medium heat, brown both sides of the patties. Do not drain the grease!

In a bowl, mix ketchup, mustard and Worcestershire sauce together.

Remove patties from the frying pan and set aside. Add 1 tablespoon of flour to the grease to create a roux. Slowly add in 1/2-3/4 cups room temperature water to your pan while stirring. You can also use beef broth for a more flavorful gravy. Pour in your ketchup/mustard/Worcestershire mix. When your gravy has reached your desired consistency add in the second half of your onion soup mix. Return Salisbury Steaks to the pan and fry until fully cooked.
